About Karla

Karla Dillard Smedley

I think Southern is in my soul. I graduated from Fannin County High School (1985) and North Georgia College (1989).  That’s been a while! After college, I lived in Germany for three years and a brief stay in Oklahoma. Then, I made my way back to Georgia.

Becoming a Christian at a young age, I have learned the importance of a daily walk with God in more recent years. Asking God to spend every day with me has made my path more peaceful and secure. As I have marched through the years, I have developed a yearning to share God’s love with ladies, encouraging them in their course as well.

Smorgasbord of Sisterhood

Smorgasbordofsisterhood.com, has flourished as a result of living life filled with faith, family, and laughter. What an adventure it is to write with my best friend, cousin, encourager, and partner in crime, Donna Kay Swann.

Family

My daughters

I am blessed with two grown girls. My oldest is a teacher, and the younger’s career is in public relations. My three sisters and Donna, who is considered a fourth sister by us all, provide me with an incredible support system and the best friends a girl could ask for.

Work

I lived and taught in Dalton, Georgia for 29 years. With a few mixed emotions, I retired from teaching in June of 2022.

My uncle once said, “You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out f the girl.”  He was so right. I have always called Blue Ridge, Georgia my home because that’s where my three sisters still live, along with most of my extended family. After being away for over 30 years, I moved back home.

So, what does this retired teacher of 31 years decide to do? Have the pleasure of serving as a part-time reading interventionist. In addition, I plan on spending an increased amount of time writing.

Spare Time

I enjoy singing in the choir at church and attending small group Bible studies.

God has orchestrated the sweetest bond between my family and a precious missionary family in our area. Their kids call me Nana and spending time with them brings me great pleasure.

The Smedley/Allen Family

At age fifty-five, I can honestly say that life is good, not always easy, but because I have God and family. I am blessed beyond measure.
